Even if you arent a moderator,its good to review this fully:

Moderator Manual

1-Moderator Duties

Greeting newcomers is a perfect way to make members feel welcome and not feel like an unwanted newbie.

A happy Moderator is a friendly moderator.Being friendly and a bit strict makes members respect you more then they respect mean super strict mods.

Of course,if you couldnt tell a member how to get to the games board,you certainly wouldnt be a moderator.Knowing your way around the board will almost garentee your doing a good job.

If there is something that bothers you or needs administrators consent,move it to Post Hold and I will read them whenever I can.

You may edit posts,as long as you use your moderator color.In fact,you MUST edit posts breaking the rules or that contain personal information.

If need-be,a meeting will occur.This will consist of all moderators and administrators.

I know moderators have to live a normal life,so you dont have to visit the forum every day but I encourage you visit the forum very often.

In any surcomstances comes a member warning members they will commit crime(s) do NOT handle this.Contact an Administrator RIGHT away with the message and headers.

2. Technical HOW TO

-Lock: To lock a topic either click the lock button above your quick mod tools or select 'lock this topic' from the quick mod tools drop down menu. It will not ask you to confirm before locking it. To unlock it you can either click the lock button which will have changed to become an 'unlock' button, or select 'unlock this topic' from your quick mod tools drop down menu.

-Split: You can either click the split topic button above your quick mod tools, or you can select 'split this topic' from the drop down menu. When splitting a topic you have two options, either splitting selected posts, or splitting from selected posts.

For splitting selected posts, you need to make a new topic title and select the forum you want to move the split posts too. You can then check the boxes to the right of each post of the topic you are splitting. Finally click 'split selected posts'. It will show you the new title and the forum you have chosen for the new topic and ask you to confirm.

For splitting from selected posts you need to make a new topic title and select the forum you want to move the unselected posts too. You can then check the boxes of all the posts you want to KEEP as part of the topic you are splitting, and leave the posts you want to make a new topic with unchecked. Click 'split from selected posts' button and it will show you the new title and the forum you have chosen for the new topic and ask you to confirm.

-Merge: You can either click the merge button above your quick mod tools or select 'merge topics' from the quick mod tools drop down menu. The next page will tell you the title of the topic you have chosen to merge. Click the 'select' button. You can then choose the forum of the topic you want to merge with, using the upper right hand drop down menu and check the topic that you want to merge with. The next page will again show you the topic you want to merge and now the topic you want to merge with. Click send.

-Sticky: When Creating a stickied post,click on the options: Sticky for the post to be stuck to the top of the board,under any announcements.

-Announcement: When Creating a stickied post,click on options:Announcement for the post to be stuck on top of the board above any stickied posts.

-Send this topic to the Garbage[Basket]: To send topics to the basket you can either click the basket button above your quick tools or use your quick tools drop down menu to select 'send this topic to the basket'. Basketing a topic means its removed from the forum and views of members, but not removed from the board totally.

-Delete this Topic: For this can either click the delete button above your mod quick tools, or use your mod quick tools drop down menu to select 'delete this topic' and click go. It will ask you if you are sure before deleting. This totally removes the topic from your board so if it is a big one, it will affect member post counts whom have posted on the topic.

-Move this Topic: To move a topic you can either click the move button above your mod quick tools, or select 'move this topic' from your quick mod tools drop down menu. You will then have to select the forum you want to move it to, and whether you want to leave a shadow topic. A shadow topic stays in the forum the post was originally made, but when clicked, opens up in the forum it has been moved to. Click yes to confirm you want to move the topic and you will be told if the topic was sucessfuly moved or not.

3. Time Commitment and Absenteeism

Being a moderator is a big responsibility.Before you accept a moderator duty,ask these questions to yourself:

-Can I spend more then 3 days a week moderating this forum?
-Am I prepared to handle most any circumstance?
-Can I deal with members in a polite way while telling them to follow the rules?
-Will I fulfill my job to the most?

If all of these answers are yes,your ready to accept the job and become a Moderator!

_________________________________________________________________________

This is a VERY important part of being a moderator:Moderating time.

Ask yourself:

-Can I be a loyal moderator and try to do the best I can of fitting atleast an hour each day moderating?

[ Of course,youll get days off Smile ]

If you cant,you should probably contact Admin.Admin will be able to make a deal with you on available times.

_______________________________________________________________________

If your required moderating day is in need of a break.Please send Krista a message saying your Departure date and your Return date.This will make it much easier knowing when youll be back.

NOTE:If you dont do this,your moderator status may be taken without notice.

4. Moderator Code of Conduct

The moderator agrees:

1. To be respectful of all members, each other, and the administration of funchat.darkbb.com and to represent the website of funchat.darkbb.com with professionalism, even though we are all volunteers;

2. To understand that not all decisions are open for group discussion because input arrives from many sources, some of which require privacy and confidentiality;

3. To be discreet and to maintain confidentiality regarding moderator forum activities and member information. Privacy laws require strict adherence and the site requires a sense of trust amongst all to fulfill its purpose;

4. To agree to use private emails and private messaging to communicate with the administrative team when questioning administration policy or guidelines or decisions on specific issues;

5. To remember that all moderators are equal in "rank" and all insight is welcome and to be treated with respect and courtesy, no matter how long a moderator has been involved in the site;

6. To consider other's feelings before hitting the submit button, both on the public boards and in private forums.

7. To resign from moderator duties if there is a breech of confidentiality, if the code of conduct is not followed, or if the guidelines of the website or the authority of the administration are not recognized.
